Old Poem

In honor of Halloween tomorrow, and creepy or misunderstood creatures everywhere, I am sharing a poem I wrote in 2005.

Snake

Slim, sleek, slithering serpent
Away with morn
Awake with dark
a robber of life, swooping down like a bat
the beheld predator of a single rat...
Slick, slim, nobody knows
what lurks beneath the life of night...
"That despicable creature!" They wail...
scream...
For never again will they find
the killer of night...
the death of day...
for an innocent creature as this,
to them, must pay
for everything...
of which it has not done.

What poems I see in a rainbow...

Rainbows

If I were to grab
a rainbow--
pull it from the sky--
what would I do?

I would sprinkle
the colors over
the world to
bring it joy...
I would eat
the scrumptious colors
filling my mouth--
my stomach--
with lightness
until
I
burst
free...

If I had a rainbow.

Stillness
I am running now.
Running through the woods.
I don't travel any path.
Going zig-zags and circles.
I run.
The blur of darkness
and leaves and the smell
of dirt, of soil, fades.
The constant moving
stops.
For I have reached
my meadow
of stillness.
